I was a blacksmith for more than 25 years. I have now downed my heavy hammers and replaced them with ones more suitable for working with gold and silver. As an artist blacksmith I was best known for my bespoke beds. These were often themed, for example, my Castaway on a Desert Island Bed and my Jane Eyre Bed. These items have long since been sold but I include them here both as a lasting record and to show how my work as a jeweller has been influenced by my time as a blacksmith.
The Castaway bed was made for Steve who grew up in Jamaica now living in England this bed takes him home. The oak tree was rescued from a river where it had lain for years. The bedside tables house all of Steve’s beach-combing collection under glass, it is lit with fibre optics and the headboard is a mermaid with dreadlocks!
